Nathan, Isaac
(1790-1864)
   Australian composer, singer and writer. He was born in Canterbury, England, and began a career as a singer, composer and music teacher in London in 1810. He was a friend of Lord Byron who at his request wrote Hebrew Melodies, which Nathan set to music. In 1841 he emigrated to Australia and settled in Sydney. He was Australia's first resident professional composer.
